Day 1 Arrival in Salzburg

Located between the two mountains Kapuzinerberg and Mönchsberg and the River Salzach Salzburg is a picturesque city with small alleys, quaint colourful town homes, rich castles and palaces, neat gardens and a high density of churches and monasteries. Salzburg is a city whose hidden corners and romantic streets unveil new impressions time and time again.

Cycling in AustriaDay 2 Salzburg to St. Michael im Lungau 16 miles.

From Salzburg cycle alongside the River Salzach to Hellbrunn then to Hallein with its salt-mine and museum of Celts. Passing picturesque market towns you reach Golling where the bus meets you and transfers you to St. Michael im Lungau.

Day 3 St. Michael im Lungau to Murau 34 miles.

First stop is Tamsweg with an historic market square and a pilgrim church to St. Leonhard. The day ends in Murau, a medieval brewery town with a brewery museum and Obermurau castle. 34 miles

Day 4 Murau to Judenburg 41 miles.

The valley of the river Mur narrows as you cycle through it withthe steep, green Niedere Tauern mountains rising to your left and right. Highlights of the day are a railway museum, ruins of the medieval Frauenburg fortress, and finally Judenburg with its medieval city tower, ancient fortress and old town houses.

Day 5 Judenburg to Bruck an der Mur 37 miles.

Now you reach the once important industrial area of Austria with its well kept old towns and interesting museums. Highlights include Maria Buch (pilgrim church) and Seckau monastery (Benedictine abbey) and Göss monastery and Brewery in Leoben. Overnight in Bruck an der Mur with its medieval merchant house and town hall. 37 miles

Day 6 Bruck an der Mur to Graz 37 miles.

Cycle through river meadows and green farmland to Frohnleiten with its flower park, medieval town square and “gossiping women’s fountain”. Continuing through beautiful countryside you reach the old town of Graz, the capital of Styria, whose architecture was strongly influenced by Italian neighbours. Enjoy a warm evening, sitting in one of the many street cafés and restaurants. 37 miles

Day 7 Round trip from Graz 25 miles.

Take a train to Köflach and then cycle to the Piber stud farm. For more than 200 years the world famous white stallions of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna have been bred here. Cycle on to Bärnbach and Voitsberg and then return to Graz. 25 miles.

Day 8 Depart from Graz

Time to make your way home or extend your stay.
