Day 1 Arrival in Graz
Arrive in Graz where Italian and Austrian culture and cuisine meet with a truly extraordinary result.
Day 2 Day trip fromj Graz 25 miles.
Take a train to Köflach and then cycle to the Piber stud farm. For more than 200 years the world famous white stallions of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna have been bred here. Cycle on to Bärnbach and Voitsberg and then return to Graz.
Day 3 Graz to Sumltal 34 miles.
Gentle cycling past fields of pumpkins and through pleasant towns such as Stainz. Continue on the famous Schilcher Wine Street and “Ölspur-Cycle Path” into the valley of the river Sulm.
Day 4 Sumltal to Gamlitz 22 miles.
You will see growing in vineyards the most famous local grapes for Riesling wines and Weißburgunder white wine. Stunning views of the soft hills of “Styrian Tuscany” and neighbouring Slovenia are the rewards of some climbs. You stay overnight in Gamlitz, where you can visit the very interesting wine museum of Castle Gamlitz.
Day 5 Gamlitz to Mureck 16 miles.
This stage is a short one to allow time for wine-tastings. Take your time to see the South Styrian Wine Street and the Volcano wine growing area of Kloech. Visit the excellent wine-grower estates of Polz and Tement or Schuster with guided cellar tour, tasting and a hearty cold meal. End the day with a 5-course menu cooked by the “Cook of Royalties” at House Steirerland or in a secluded hut in the vineyards.
Day 6 Mureck to Bad Radkersburg 15 miles.
Water, water everywhere… Take a refreshing plunge in lake Röcksee and then follow the river Mur, which has one of the loveliest cycle paths, to the thermal spas of Bad Radkersburg (a very well preserved historic town ). Try out the thermal spa “Parktherme”.
Day 7 Rest Day or Round trip from Bad Radkersburg 22 miles.
Rest day or you can cycle along the Austrian-Slovenian border on tranquil cycle paths into the Volcano country around Bad Radkersburg or into Slovenia. Lovely scenic countryside, sleepy wine-growing villages and an evening swim in thermal water, accessible directly from the hotel. That is well-being!
Day 8 Depart Bad Radkersburg.
Time to make your way home or take a train back to Graz
