A Taste of Burgundy

Cruise and Cycle Cruise and Cycle Guided Grading Level 2
8 days/7 nights Price - £550pp Tour Code FR002

Burgundy is one of the most delightful areas of France. Rich in history and culture, the region has something to offer everyone - delicious wines, imposing castles, gently rolling landscapes, ancient monuments, quaint mediaeval towns, the glories of the Renaissance, wonderful food and much more. From the capital of the region, Dijon you will follow the canal of Burgundy and the river Saône all the way to Tournus. The scenery changes from small villages and rolling hills covered in oak and maple forests to sloping vineyards and fertile plains and to lively and charming historic towns such as Beaune and Chalon sur Saône . The Burgundy region is wonderful for cycling holidays with some stretches of the tour by barge allowing you time to relax.

ycling in France - BurgundyStarting in Dijon you will have time to explore this beautiful city Saturday night with your guide and Sunday afternoon. You will visit the Abbey of Citeaux on your way to Seurre. Not forgetting the wines, there is a wine tasting session during your visit to Beaune. The first vines were introduced by the Romans, and later the industrious Cistercian monks developed the techniques and knowledge required for much larger scale production. You will have time to wander around Chalon sur Saône and Tournus. On the Saturday you will board the bus for your journey back to Dijon.

Every other tour will be in reverse, i.e. starting in Macon and ending in Dijon.

Daily Itinerary

Steile BankThe Captain and his wife have a deserved reputation for hospitality. The Steile Bank has 9 cabins, allowing between 18 and 30 guests. All cabins have en-suite facilities and are furnished with bunk beds. In the saloon, where meals are eaten, there is an "honesty" bar. You help yourself to wine, beer or soft drinks and record what you have taken so that you can pay at the end of the week. We use an operator in Holland for these holidays, and as they sell to other agents in Europe such as ourselves it is likely you will have a mix of different nationalities on this tour adding to the cultural enjoyment.
