Reims cathedralExploring the Champagne region by bicycle is a journey rich in diversity. Where this fine bubbly is made, holds so many treasures: a rolling countryside, dotted medieval churches, timeless castles and villages along winding waterways, and vineyards as far as the eye can see. Enjoy the shimmering countryside between the Marne Valley and the Montagne de Reims Natural Park. The Champagne region also has a fabulous religious heritage, the jewel of which is the Gothic Cathedral of Reims.

An alternative tour is possible for only 5 days and 4 night, staying in Reims for 2 nights and Epernay for 2 nights. If you can only manage a short break this might be for you - contact us for more details. We are calling this short tour The Bike and Bubbly Break.

Daily Itinerary
 

Day 1: Arrival in Reims

Arriving at your hotel in Reims in the afternoon gives time for a welcome meeting and then you are free to enjoy this wonderful town. The cathedral should not be missed.

Day 2: Reims to Tours sur Marne, 34 miles (54km)

After breakfast, you set off towards Tours sur Marne through the pretty villages and vineyards of the Montagne de Reims: Chigny the Roses, Verzenay, Bouzy (appropriately named!)... Arriving at the end of the day in Tours sur Marne.

Day 3: Tours sur Marne to Epernay, 22 miles (35km)

After breakfast, you begin cycling towards Epernay through the Regional Natural Park of the Montagne de Reims, with its famous strange trees “Faux de Verzy”. Your overnight stay is in Epernay.

Day 4: Epernay to Vertus, 16 miles (25km)

After breakfast, leaving Epernay to the South, you enter the region of chardonnay production and “champagnes blanc de blancs”, known as champagne guaranteed for delicacy, freshness, finesse and elegance. Tonight you will stay in Vertus.

Day 5: Vertus to Châtillon s/ Marne, 22 miles (35km)

Today you continue your way westwards through the beautiful Marne Valley, the region boasting grape varieties such as Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir and more picturesque villages. The further west you go, the more Pinot Meunier you will come across. Overnight stay in Châtillon s/ Marne

Day 6: Châtillon s/ Marne to Reims, 22 miles (35km)

After breakfast, you will make your way through the “Montagne de Reims” back towards the starting point in Reims. Once back in Reims there is plenty to see and enjoy. You may want to take in a tour of one of the Champagne Houses or you may just prefer to relax in one of the many bars and restaurants and sample the local produce.

Day 7: Departure from Reims

After breakfast you can make your way home or you may want to book an extra night.
