Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Rothenburg ob der Tauber

The picturesque town of Rothenburg is the starting point of your journey. This town attracts many visitors from all over the world, as it is an epitome of the Romanesque style. Discover the old town and the Saint Jacob's church with its famous wooden altar made by Tilman Riemenschneider.

Day 2 Rothenburg ob der Tauber - Dinkelsbühl 31 miles.

The first destination of your journey is Schillingsfürst with its baroque castle. But before you get there, there's a small ascent to cover. Cycling through Zumhaus, with its bicycle museum, and Feuchtwangen you reach your destination for today, Dinkelsbühl. This town lies at the idyllic Wörnitz valley. There is a beautiful market place and traditional restaurants to visit. Something special to look out for at Dinkelsbühl is the night watchman. His job is to make sure that there everything is safe in the town - a role that has been in existance since the middle ages.

Day 3 Dinkelsbühl - Nördlingen, 24miles.

Today you cycle through a region of special geographical interest, the Nördlinger Ries. 15 million years ago there was the impact of a meteorite of approximately 1200 meters diameter, which left a crater of 20 to 25 kilometres diameter. The destination of this stage is Nördlingen that has Germany's only fully conserved town wall upon which to walk. You can enjoy the view from the 90 meters high bell tower of Saint George's church. For those who are interested in geology there is the crater museum.

Day 4 Nördlingen - Donauwörth/Rain, 25 miles.

Today's route sees you leaving behind the Ries region and cycling through the beautiful Wörnitz valley. You pass Harburg whose old fortress lies high above the valley. Then you reach Donauwörth at the mouth of the Wörnitz into the Danube. An important part of the town is the splendid imperial street with impressive buildings one beside the next. Another point of interest of this town is the Käthe-Kruse-puppet-museum. Overnight stay is in Donauwörth or in Rain am Lech.

Day 5 Depart Donauwörth or Rain.

The journey is over and it is time to make your way home.
