Cyclists near Lake Balaton in HungaryThis is an extended tour of 11 days offering 5 days of cycling plus a range of other activities from simply relaxing on a beach to hiking, fishing, sailing, golfing, swimming, surfing, bird watching and horse riding. Something for everyone!

Apart from its cultural and architectural highlights, the Upper – Balaton region has a unique flora and fauna that is still visible in its original and authentic environment. Lake Balaton, the largest shallow fresh water lake in Central Europe, sprung up around 25 thousand years ago and is a popular resort now. The settlements along its shore offer plenty of opportunities for recreation (thermal water with healing qualities) and leisure time activities. The region is famous for its winemaking and you can also relax and be entertained at various places around the lake where there is a full programme of summer theatre and concerts.

It is also a great tour for families. As well as the countryside and beaches there are zoos, water parks, and working farms to visit. Childrens bikes, trailers and tagalongs can be provided if required.

  • Fly to Budapest with Easyjet or Ryanair and then train to Balaton (must arrive in Budapest by 15.00hrs for train link otherwise extra night needed)

Day 8 to Day 11: Extra days in Tihany or Badacsonytomaj

Four extra days and nights will be arranged in either Tihany or Badacsonytomaj so that you can make this tour include those activities you want to do. It might be further cycling or you may just want to relax on a beach. However, you might want to include some hiking, fishing, sailing, golfing, swimming, surfing, bird watching or horse riding. There is something for everyone so you need to let us know what activities you would like to include. You can decide which activities you prefer and in which order to do them.

Cyclists in the Lake Balaton regionThe cycle tours includes visits to the main sights in Upper – Balaton, such as Tihany Abbey, Balatonfüred, Nagyvázsony Castle, etc and also includes crossing the lake by ferryboat to visit Siofok.

The optional hiking tours include 1-4 hour tours around the Tihany peninsula, which is a Nature Park, to Balatonfüred and the Balatonfüred Forests, with caves, and to the Balaton Upland Nature Park. These are all self-guided so maps and information are provided.

Also optional sailing tours, fishing program, wine tasting, etc are available and can be arranged.
