Lombardy is a fascinating land of lakes and rivers, along which you pedal to reach the many historical and cultural sights - Milan, Bergamo, Pavia and Como where Roman remains, medieval fragments and glorious Baroque and 18th century art lie on the steep slopes leading to the lake.

Daily Itinerary
 

Day 1 Sat Arrive Bergamo.

Day 2 Sun Bergamo to Como 41 miles.

Leaving Bergamo by train to Ambivere, from there you cycle by the river Adda and through the Parco dell’Adda Nord. By the lakes of Olginate and Garlate you eventually reach Como. A walk on the lakeside promenade is a must.

Day 3 Mon Como to Varese 23 miles.

Leaving Como this is a hilly section with some busy roads so care needed. The ride takes you to Varese, also known as the city of villas and gardens, because of its development in the 18th century as a holiday resort for the nobility and bourgeoisie of Milan .

Day 4 Tue Varese to Sesto Calende 25 miles.

A lovely route along a beautiful cycle path by the Lake di Varese. Then past Lakes Comabbio and Monate before reaching Sesto Calende on the shore of Lake Maggiore.

Day 5 Wed Sesto Calende to Milan 45 miles.

Firstly you ride through the beautiful National Park of the Ticino Valley and then along the Naviglio Grande, a feat of hydraulic engineering. At the Villoresi canal, you leave the river and proceed on the towpath to Milan with its numerous sites of interest including the Sforza Castle and various museums.

Day 6 Thu Milan to Pavia 30 miles.

A fascinating route along the beautiful Naviglio Pavese, away from traffic and noise. Along the way you will pass the towns of Rozzano and Rinasco and, less than 6 miles before reaching Pavia, you will discover the famous charterhouse built in 1396.

Day 7 Fri Pavia to Bergamo 28 miles.

A tranquil route through the fertile countryside crossed by the Olona and Lambro rivers to Lodi (worth a visit). Following the course of the River Adda through the Parco Regionale dell’Adda you go on to Treviglio where you catch the train to Bergamo.

Day 8 Sat Depart from Bergamo.
