This shorter tour, set in the heart of the Kent countryside, can make a wonderful long weekend or short break for the family. With shorter daily distances, it gives more time to explore some fine historic buildings and take in some of the local attractions and villages in this area.
Day 1 Arrival in Tonbridge
You arrive in Tonbridge and have the rest of the day to explore and settle in to your hotel. Tonbridge has been a market town since the Middle Ages. The Normans chose it for their motte and bailey castle, which dominates the town to this day and is surrounded by 14 acres of lawns and gardens alongside the River Medway.
Day 2 Tonbridge to Edenbridge 14 miles.
Your hire bike will be available for you and you will leave Tonbridge for a tour that takes you past some of the best castles and stately homes in the country - including Penshurst Place and Hever Castle, best known as Anne Boleyn's childhood home.
The route takes you up the Medway and Eden valleys to Edenbridge
Day 3 Edenbridge to Tunbridge Wells 19 miles
With a visit to Hartfield, formerly the home of children’s author A A Milne, you cycle to Groombridge via the Forest trail and then up the valley of the river Grom to reach the 17th century spa town, Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Day 4 Tunbridge Wells to Tonbridge 23 miles.
The final day leads out into the picturesque Wealden countryside. If time allows there is the opportunity to visit the Hop Farm at Beltring before returning to Tonbridge.
