Day 1 Arrive Bucharest and transfer to Bran.
Arrival Bucharest and then a three-hour scenic ride through the mountains to Zarnesti at the foot of the Piatra Craiului Mountains, famous for its ‘Large Carnivore Research Project’. Two nights in a very welcoming guesthouse in Zarnesti with good home made Romanian food and Brandy.
Day 2 Round trip from Zarnisti 21 miles.
Cycle to Dracula castle with splendid views of the Bucegi Mountains. You may cycle to the Plaiu Foii Mountain hut where the scenery is absolutely beautiful (don't worry as the cycling is fairly flat!). You may also visit Risnov castle, built by the German knights.
Day 3 Zarnisti to Fogarasch 36 miles.
Cycle around the Piatra Craiului massive, a National Park with the highest concentration of bears and wolves in Europe, along a beautiful valley between two mountains to Fogarasch. Visit the pretty, recently restored Renaissance castle owned by the Hungarian Wojwodes who ruled Transylvania.
Day 4 Fogarasch to Sighisoara 37 miles.
You cycle through quite a remote area with astounding views of the Transylvanian Alps passing numerous church castles and meeting only horse-drawn carts, cows and sheep on the road. For the church castles you have to get the key in one of the farmhouses. If you are lucky you may see a gypsy street wedding on your way. Also you may visit Trappold castle that is looked after by a German artist. Cycle further to Sighisoara, the birth place of Count Dracula. The town castle is the biggest lived-in castle in Europe and part of the Unesco Cultural Heritage. You may have a good Hungarian meal or game in your very good hotel or in the ‘casa cerbul’ the house with the deer antler, where normally the Prince of Wales dines when he is visiting.
Day 5 Sighisoara to Medias 36 miles.
Today you have enough time to stroll around the town castle (UNESCO Cultural Worldheritage). Visit the 'church on the hill', the 'pearl of Transylvania', the medieval clocktower and fortifications. Have an Apfelstrudel on the church square before your transfer takes you to the Kokel valley. Visit the old bishopric of Biertan, the most impressive church castle (UNESCO World Heritage). Cycle via Mosna castle to Medias.
Day 6 Medias to Sibiu 30 miles.
Leaving Medias, you cycle to Sibiu with astounding views of the Cindrel Mountains. On your way there are plenty of opportunities to see rare flowers, birds and butterflies. You arrive in Sibiu for two nights, maybe the most beautiful town in Romania.

Day 7 Round trip from Sibiu 8 or 15 miles.
In the morning stroll through the medieval town centre and enjoy the architecture. In the afternoon, cycle through the Erlenpark through the Open Air ‘Peasant museum’ or have a longer tour to Michelsberg. In the evening you may attend an organ concert in the medieval church or visit one of the numerous jazz clubs.
Day 8 Transfer to Bucharest station.
An early start is required for your transfer to Bucharest airport.
