Castles of Transylvania

Freedom Holiday Self Guided Grading Level 3
8 days/7 nights Price - £425pp Tour Code RM001

On this cycling tour you will explore the remote traditional villages at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, the Saxon villages and their impressive fortified churches, and visit Bran castle, said to be one of the original abodes of the medieval king known as Vlad the Impaler, who helped inspire Bram Stoker.

You will stay a night in Sighisoara, the birthplace of Count Dracula, which is one of the best-preserved medieval citadels in Europe and the biggest inhabited castle in Europe. Passing on by the ruins of Stolzenburg castle, you ride on a winding route to Sibiu or Hermannstadt (as it was called by the 12th century German-Saxon colonists), maybe the most beautiful town in Romania. There you may attend an organ concert in the medieval church or visit one of the numerous jazz clubs. On the final day an early start is needed for the transfer to Sibiu train station and then by train and taxi to Bucharest airport.
